Linerless Labels

Linerless direct thermal labels are continuous label rolls with no silicone backing paper to peel off and throw away. The adhesive sits behind a release coating on the label face itself, so the printer cuts each label to whatever length you need and there is no liner waste at all. We stock 80mm and 100mm widths on 25mm, 38mm and 76mm cores, in permanent and removable adhesive, at Australia's lowest prices with free shipping on orders over $500.

What are linerless labels?

A standard label roll is made of two layers: the label itself, and a silicone-coated backing paper (the liner) that the labels are peeled from. A linerless roll removes that second layer entirely. The adhesive is protected by a release coating applied over the printable face, so the labels can be wound directly onto themselves without sticking.

Because there is no liner, the roll is one continuous strip rather than a series of die-cut labels. The printer cuts each label to length as it prints, so a single roll can produce short 40mm labels one minute and long 200mm address labels the next. Nothing is left over to bin, and you fit more label onto the same roll diameter.

Which linerless roll do you need?

Match the roll to your printer's width and core size, then choose permanent or removable adhesive. Because linerless labels are cut to length, the number of labels per roll depends on how long you make them. Not sure which roll fits your printer? Call our team on 1300 198 684.

Your printer must support linerless media

This is the one thing to check before ordering. Linerless rolls only run in printers built for them. A linerless printer uses a non-stick platen roller and a cutter in place of the usual peel bar and gap sensor, so the adhesive does not build up inside the print path. Loading a linerless roll into a standard label printer will gum up the platen and rollers.

If your printer's specification does not mention linerless or continuous linerless media, it almost certainly will not run it. Call us on 1300 198 684 with your printer model and we will confirm before you order. If your printer is not linerless-capable, our standard direct thermal labels are the equivalent lined product.

Linerless vs standard lined labels

More labels per roll. With no liner taking up space, a 25mm-core linerless roll carries 80m of media, which is roughly 533 labels at 150mm long against 400 on a comparable lined 100 x 150mm roll. Fewer roll changes means less downtime on a busy despatch bench.

Any label length you like. Lined labels are die-cut to a fixed size, so a 100 x 150mm roll only ever prints 100 x 150mm. A linerless roll is cut to length on the fly, so one roll covers short product labels and long address labels alike.

No liner waste. Silicone-coated backing paper cannot go in normal paper recycling, so on a lined roll it is landfill. Linerless removes that waste stream completely, which also means no liner scraps on the floor around the printer.

Permanent or removable. Most of the range uses a permanent adhesive for despatch and shelf labelling that should stay put. The 80mm x 82m roll uses a removable, repositionable adhesive instead, for reusable containers, medical equipment, glass and anything you expect to relabel.

The trade-off. You need a linerless-capable printer, and because the roll is continuous there is no perforation between labels. The printer's cutter does that job instead.

Common uses: shipping and courier labels, variable-length address labels, food and deli service labels, retail and price labels, medical and equipment labelling, and high-volume despatch benches where roll changes cost time.

Frequently asked questions

What are linerless labels?
Linerless labels are continuous self-adhesive label rolls with no silicone backing paper. The adhesive is protected by a release coating on the label face, so the roll winds onto itself without sticking and the printer cuts each label to length. There is no liner to peel off or throw away.
Do I need a special printer for linerless labels?
Yes. Linerless rolls only run in linerless-capable printers, which use a non-stick platen roller and a cutter instead of a peel bar. Running linerless media in a standard label printer will leave adhesive on the platen and rollers. If your printer specification does not mention linerless media, call us on 1300 198 684 with the model before ordering.
Should I choose permanent or removable adhesive?
Choose permanent for despatch, courier and shelf labels that should never come away on their own. Choose removable when the label needs to peel off cleanly later, for example on reusable containers and crates, medical equipment, glass and windows, or library books. Our 80mm x 82m roll is the removable option and is also repositionable, so a label can be lifted and re-placed as you apply it.
How many labels are on a linerless roll?
It depends on the length you cut them to, because the roll is continuous rather than die-cut. An 80m roll gives about 800 labels at 100mm long or 533 at 150mm, an 82m roll about 820 and 547, and a 153m roll about 1530 and 1020.
Are linerless labels direct thermal or thermal transfer?
These are direct thermal, so no ribbon or ink is needed. The printer applies heat directly to the heat-sensitive label surface. As with any direct thermal label the print can fade with heat, light or rubbing over time, so for long-life labelling choose a thermal transfer label and ribbon instead.
Are linerless labels perforated?
No. A linerless roll is one continuous strip with no perforations and no gaps, so the printer's cutter separates each label at the length you set. Most of the range is plain continuous stock, while the 80mm x 82m removable roll carries printed black marks that the printer reads to find each label position, so set that one to black mark sensing.
What core sizes and widths do you stock?
Four rolls: 80mm x 80m and 100mm x 80m on a 25mm (1") core for desktop linerless printers, 80mm x 82m on a 38mm core with removable adhesive, and 100mm x 153m on a 76mm (3") core for larger and industrial linerless printers.
Are linerless labels better for the environment?
They remove the liner waste stream. Silicone-coated backing paper cannot go into standard paper recycling, so on a conventional roll it goes to landfill. A linerless roll produces none of it, and fitting more label onto each roll means fewer cores and less packaging for the same number of labels.
What is the label material and is it BPA free?
All four rolls are white top coated direct thermal stock and all are BPA free. The three permanent rolls are 70gsm. The 80mm x 82m removable roll uses coatings made without silicone, BPA or BPS.
Can I order single rolls or in bulk?
Most rolls can be bought singly or as bulk cartons at Australia's lowest prices. The 80mm x 82m removable roll is supplied by the carton with a minimum of 10 rolls. Order online, or call 1300 198 684 for trade and bulk pricing. Free shipping on orders over $500.
Linerless labels from Label Warehouse are continuous direct thermal label rolls with no silicone backing paper, so there is no liner to peel off or send to landfill and the printer cuts every label to the length you need. We stock four rolls: 80mm x 80m and 100mm x 80m on a 25mm (1") core, 80mm x 82m on a 38mm core with a removable and repositionable adhesive and black mark sensing, and 100mm x 153m on a 76mm (3") core. All are white top coated direct thermal stock, BPA free, and need no ribbon. An 80m roll yields roughly 800 labels at 100mm long or 533 at 150mm, against 400 on a comparable lined 100 x 150mm roll, so there are fewer roll changes on a busy despatch bench. Choose permanent adhesive for despatch and shelf labels, and the removable roll for reusable containers, medical equipment, glass and anything you expect to relabel. Linerless rolls require a linerless-capable printer with a non-stick platen and cutter, and will not run in a standard label printer, so check your printer model first.
